FAITH AND AN OLD SIGN IN THE FOREST

I went for a forest ridge-walk with Frankie, the other day. Out in the middle of a tangled mess of fallen trees, a trail was being cleared or possibly restored by PEI government forestry workers. There, in the depths of that forest, I (and clearly the workers) came across this old and very weathered sign long ago screwed to one of a heap of downed trees. What were the chances? If it was part of God’s plan, then 100%.

I wondered about for whom that recovered hand painted message was meant to reach. The words were impossible to read in entirety, but the source of the quote, included at the bottom was at least clear and readable. Upon returning home, an AI assisted search provided the missing text:

“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”

Martin Luther King Jr.,

Of course, the most wonderfully meaningful word in the sign’s message about “faith” is the word “staircase”.
