A MATTER OF PERSPECTIVE (COVID 19)

A MATTER OF PERSPECTIVE

To Begin, I would like to express my continuing thanks to all
first responders, all medical practitioners and associated medical teams, all long-term care givers, all pharmacy and grocery workers, their associated suppliers, and all supply chain drivers and logistics support persons. Your ongoing courage, devotion, professionalism, and provision of essential services in the early critical and challenging times of the COVID pandemic remain as acts of heroism and examples
of love for others in action. The same is true of all services maintained or restored by front line workers during times of uncertainty and crisis. You and I and every world citizen can look at an image from different
perspectives and interpretations; however, regarding COVID 19, and in
other times of crisis, so much more is at stake than solely an artist’s impressions. This visual arts piece, now titled A MATTER OF PERSPECTIVE (Regarding COVID19), could be a door opening and letting in the light. This may speak to some of hope in the face of darkness and despair. Conversely, perhaps it is the door closing on a loved one’s life. The image might appear to others as a beam of light emanating from a symbolic pyramid of our world’s post-COVID 19 society: a symbol of solidarity and greater purpose than self-interest in
the face of a possible existential crisis. Wildly divergently, mountain climbers might imagine two dangerous but inviting opposed cliff faces:
a “chimney” offering a technical “option” to move upwards and
forward. With COVID 19, and in future times of crisis, understanding and discerning appropriate responses are not only matters of perspective but also issues of urgency requiring careful thought and consciously loving choices for proactive collective responsibility and
behaviour. Let us choose and act with wisdom: let us act based on our knowledge and science but always be guided by love, compassion, and a greater concern for others.

A SINGLE TEAR
(Written for our son, Cam (1978 – 2018)

A single tear rains down upon the desert
A single tear – the mountain face so high.
A single tear commingling with an ocean
Across a span as endless as the sky.
If ages past were but a single moment
If single tears were not constrained by time
Those single tears would be a raging torrent
The sound of which would move a calm sublime.
“God sees the little sparrow fall” is written.
“It meets His tender view” has graced the pen.
How precious that the God of all creation
Would also turn His gaze upon the wren.
