When personal forward progress seems unlikely and difficult at best, take a deep breath. Then, carefully consider if your present position can be shifted just a little so as to afford you a clear vantage point of the vista beyond the entanglement.
Sometimes life’s roles and responsibilities become so entangled that we become focused only on the tangles. We lose sight of how the frame of reference limits our possibilities just as a frame limits the possibilities of a painting. The shift in one’s vantage point need not be monumental, arduous, potentially perilous, or even self-destructive. Consider these two paintings and the difference a three meter shift to the right changed the vantage point and cleared away the clutter.

Many of life’s tangles are not so impassable as we might initially suppose. Perhaps if we shift our intransigent position, relax our practiced stance, truly forgive a forgivable indiscretion, reach out to help someone in need, rescue and love a pet, consider that loving others is how we, ourselves, are loved. Perhaps that is the clarity of the vista and the purpose we seek: to love others as we truly, ourselves, are loved.
God bless,
Jim Davis
